Very proud to announce that Sport500 has been shortlisted for Website of the Year by the Sports Journalists Association. Thank you and well done to everyone whose hard work has got us this far.
This website joins in the tributes to one of the very best of the breed of sports journalists – Bob Cass, who died aged 78 on November 24 after a long and courageous battle against cancer, writes Tom Clarke.
Bob was more than a football writer with exclusive after exclusive to his name in The Sun and the Mail on Sunday.
He was a chairman of the Football Writers’ Association, he was devoted to journalism and journalists (he was always ready to encourage young journalists), he was a master story-teller, he was a joy as a golfing partner (and a captain of Durham City Golf Club), and he was a loving husband to Janet and father to three children (including Simon, himself a leading sports journalist).
Not for the first time, Sir Alex Ferguson had it right when he said (as quoted by Paul Hayward in the Telegraph): “He’s a great lad, Cassy.”
There’s a stream of tributes to Bob running on Facebook, Google and Twitter. There’s real taste of Bob in the Q&A he gave to the FWA website in 2012.
